Over the past few months, we have proudly made a large number of furniture pieces, both as part of complete interiors and in the form of custom-ordered individual furniture pieces. We have observed some key living trends. These trends are useful to know when considering having furniture made to your own design.
The modern wall cupboard increasingly also functions as a room divider. What could be better than being able to separate your dining area from the seating area with a cupboard instead of building a wall? This way, you can always adjust the layout of your living space when your situation changes.
Built-in electric fireplaces are completely emission-free and instantly add atmosphere to any interior – making them a conscious choice. They can also be seamlessly integrated into a bespoke wall unit, combining comfort and design.
Furniture is also increasingly being made from sustainable materials such as solid wood, which, with proper care, will last for years. This creates an alternative to disposable solutions: responsible, high-quality furniture for the future. Sheet materials also play a major role in this. Through the CBM, Meubelmakerij De Stoof is participating in the Wood Loop project, which recycles wood scraps and thus helps reduce CO₂ emissions by 95,000 tonnes. Circular together!
A real trend is the wall-to-wall cupboard, or a bespoke built-in unit that forms an integral part of the home. This ensures that every inch of space is used to its full potential. It also makes the room appear larger.
Increasingly, such a cupboard is combined with an integrated bench, creating a cosy spot to relax. You also see the cupboard flowing into a dining area, creating a harmonious and practical whole. These kinds of multifunctional solutions make the interior not only stylish but also exceptionally efficient to use.
Walk-in wardrobes have long since ceased to be merely functional storage spaces; they are now true statement pieces in any interior. With bespoke design, luxurious materials and well-thought-out layouts, they serve as an extension of your personal style. A sleekly designed wardrobe can blend seamlessly into the room or stand out as a design feature, whilst a walk-in wardrobe takes the sense of luxury and organisation to a whole new level. By playing with lighting, open shelves and high-quality finishes, an exclusive look is created that impresses both practically and aesthetically.
In addition, we are seeing an increasing demand for specially made-to-measure cabinets for washing machines and dryers in combination with wardrobes. This ensures that the space is not only stylishly furnished but also used practically, for example by combining a linen cupboard with an integrated laundry area.
Lighting not only serves an atmospheric and practical purpose as a light source, but is also a true work of art that stands out for its form and materials. It can therefore be quite imposing and prominent, not just above a table, but also in a bare corner or above a low sideboard. The fixtures often consist of multiple light sources of varying sizes that together form a harmonious whole. In addition, a bronze finish is increasingly being preferred over traditional black.
Nowadays, we hardly ever make wall cabinets without lighting. Not because it’s impossible to do otherwise, but because our customers invariably ask for it. If you want to show off your showpieces, good lighting is really a must.
We’re seeing more and more large dining tables for guests and cosy dining benches. Enjoying convivial drinks and dinners with friends or family at home plays an important role. The table forms the heart of the home. Comfortable chairs (armchairs) ensure that people can sit at the table for longer periods with greater ease and enjoyment. What’s more, every table we make is unique: you can choose the type of wood, finish, colour and base entirely to your own taste. Bar stools are also very popular, often combined with a bar or dining table next to a kitchen island or within an open-plan kitchen layout, creating a seamless and inviting living space.
My sofa? That’s what I call a proper seat – though comfort means something different to everyone. Whether you’re curling up in an armchair or stretching out on the sofa, it remains timeless. The choice is vast: from minimalist to bold, from modern to classic, and from compact to spacious. Soft, cosy fabrics such as bouclé, wool or velvet add warmth and atmosphere. Dare to combine it with a freestanding armchair or a separate seat, and choose a neutral base with interchangeable cushions for a fresh look. A rug completes the look, improves the acoustics and creates a cosy living area. With playful shapes and designs, such as those in Brinker’s Feel Good, Pallio and Ensuite Series, you can give your interior a unique character.
Fabric is increasingly preferred to leather as an upholstery material. Bouclé, a coarse (wool-like) fabric with a cuddly texture, remains a trend. Also attractive are Keymer's so-called Care & Clean fabrics. Thanks to an innovative production process, these fabrics have durable protection. The fabrics are easy to keep clean and stains can be easily removed. In addition, velour remains a popular choice. We also see more prints and colourful fabrics on sofas, armchairs and dining room chairs, an eye-catcher in your interior!
The trend of handleless design remains popular, although customers often opt for a handle rail as an alternative. Similar to the choice in lighting, bronze finishes are increasingly preferred over black. A visible handle is also considered acceptable.
The trend for handle-free design remains as popular as ever. At the same time, many customers are opting for a handle strip as a stylish alternative. As with lighting, we are seeing a clear shift in finishes: bronze is gaining ground over black. A visible handle is also increasingly seen as a fully-fledged and aesthetic choice.
It is striking that customers pay a great deal of attention to the choice of furniture fittings. It is precisely these details that give a piece of furniture a personal and distinctive character.
Often, the desire for new furniture starts with a change in life situation. Think of buying a new house or redecorating to suit a new phase of life. Our customers then start looking for new furniture and discover our craftsmanship. We are regularly asked whether it is possible to make an appointment online. Experience shows that this does not work. We value personal contact and it is also nice to be able to show and feel examples, types of wood and colours. A click with the customer is very important to us and this has a positive effect on the design process.
