Wooden furniture finished with lacquer or paint requires little maintenance, but it does need attention. Wood reacts badly to liquids and we recommend to wipe down furniture immediately after it has come into contact with a liquid. A porous vase or flower-pot can make a ring on a table top. Sharp objects may cause scratches in the wood. We advise our customers to always use mats or to apply felt to certain objects. Also be aware when using alcohol or other caustic substances. Never place a hot pan directly on an unprotected surface. This will cause ring marks which cannot be removed. Direct sunlight will cause wood (or cloth upholstery) to fade. Never expose your furniture to bright sunlight! Dust your furniture regularly with a soft dry or damp cloth without detergents. Oil finishes do require maintenance. Apply oil to nourish your wood surfaces.
You may very well be able to repair cupboard doors or drawers yourself when you find that they no longer properly close. Just adjust the hinge or the slide a little. Always make sure that your piece of furniture is level.
Wood is a natural product; beautiful, characteristic and warm. It is strong and durable and each piece of wood is unique. Knots and tiny crazes give wood character. Temperature differences may cause wood to warp. This is a property of wood. The recommended relative humidity is between 40% and 60%.
We can sand damaged or antiquated table tops and finish them again for you, provided the top is made of solid wood. We do not sand veneer tables. To remove paint from an entire table or cupboard, it may be an idea to treat it with lye or to blast it. Let us advise you on the options. A specific colour may give a dark cupboard a completely different look. We can often fix a wobbly chair or one with loose joints for you. We do not reupholster chairs or sofas.
To restore an antique piece of furniture we recommend you refer to a restoration workshop.
